Ants Away – The Natural Way
Even the tightest homes can be invaded by pesky ants. Why do they want in? Food. And then they find a food source, ants leave a long-lasting invisible chemical trail for the colony to follow. The best defense is cleanliness, so keep your counters free of crumbs, sticky spots, and open food. Also, fix any dripping faucets and avoid soaking dishes overnight. Other all-natural ways to deter the little critters:
- Spray them with soapy water. Keep a bottle nearby so you will have it when you need it.
- Make a line at the ant’s entry point with cayenne pepper, citrus oil, lemon juice, or coffee grounds.
- Place mint tea bags or dry, cut mint leaves or cloves near areas where the ants seem most active.
- Put garlic cloves between the planks of wood on your deck or patio if they’re coming in through there.
- Set out bitter cucumber peels of slices where you think ants are getting in.
